It was very helpful to learn why certain technical aspects of linguistic elements occur. All too often a simple explanation of, \"That's just the way it is,\" is utilized to explain language dynamics- but there is more insight than such an explanation. As a native English speaker it is very difficult to reason why one says things a certain way so it is helpful to learn explanations such as, \"Adjectives of more than two syllables do not add -er, because it is too unwieldy to say, but are preceded by the word more.\" It allows the student to apply the logic to other situations for a greater, more thorough understanding (save for the exceptions to the rules).
