In this unit I learned about teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills are listening and reading. These receptive skills are used for pleasurable activities like reading a book or listening to music as well as for important tasks like listening to a message in your voicemail from the mechanic coming to the house tomorrow. This unit explains how native speakers use their receptive skills with additional skills like scanning and making predictions. It also gives advice on how to teach receptive skills to the students. One example is having students put a jumbled up reading passage back in order because it shows they can skim, scan and comprehend the reading.
