Unit 7 introduces receptive skills, it mainly focuses on reading and listening. There are different reasons and motives for reading and listening such as for purposes or entertainment. As each individual reads or listens they use 5 different types of methods to benefit what they are looking for in the passage/speech. Those 5 methods are; predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. The language used can also be discouraging for students so teachers can pre teach the complex vocabulary before hand. Teachers need to choose materials that interests and motivates students to read and listen. Using the same materials to practice different skills can be helpful for students as they can just referece some words to get a better understanding of it.
