Teach English in Xiangdu Zhen - Chongzuo Shi
This unit states shows the different methodologies that can be applied to teach English. A few of the common ones are: Grammar translation, where each word is translated into its literal meaning, thus making it a ?not too effective? technique. Audio lingualism is another method in which repetition drills are used. Apart from these are Comminicative Language Teaching, Suggestopaedia and the silent way. Engage, Study, Activate is an effective method to motivate students to learn. In this technique, students are engaged in a lesson by different activities so as to warm up the students for the lesson and make them comfortable. In the Study phase, teachers usually teach the language and most of the times this involves board work. Activate phase is where students will put into effect whatever they have learned and come up with an outcome by using the language that they know plus the one that has just been taught. Lessons are not always taught in this sequence but they have to start with the ?Engage? phase and finish at the ?Activate? phase. Straight arrow lesson, patchwork lesson and Boomerang lessons are all examples of ESA lessons. It is always important to give feedback at the end of the lesson so as to encourage self awareness amongst students and to make room for improvements.
