I found this unit very interesting due to the fact that it took something basic and mundane, yet gave it some importance in relation to teaching a class. During my years as an undergraduate student, I was very familiar with reading and listening techniques that was outlined in the third page. Predictive skills were important when looking for specific information among multiple articles. I used this skill to browse through article headlines to predict whether or not it will include the information that I am searching for, instead of reading the entirety of all the articles. Scanning and skimming were also useful when reading the entire content is unnecessary if I just want a general idea, or if I am only searching for specific information. Reading detailed information and deducing from context was especially important when writing essays, as I needed to use specific examples from a text, or understand the meaning behind certain passages. All of these skills are important in a lesson because it can help students comprehend the lesson more efficiently. After reading through the Patchwork lesson plan, I developed a better understanding of expectations from teachers in order to perform a successful lesson. I understand the importance of using interesting and comprehensible topics in order to catch the student's interest.
