This unit focused on various teaching methods, the ESA (Engage, Study and Activate) method of teaching specifically, why the ESA method is effective and covered lots of different examples of activities for each stage of an ESA lesson. The ESA method of teaching is a particularly useful one as it ensures the best possible understanding of new language being introduced, whilst still being fun through the use of games and interactive activities. I have previously used some of the activities mentioned in the unit which gave me a better understanding of how the ESA method would play out, and of course there were many activities I had not yet come across which I can now use in the future to keep my lessons interesting for the students. The unit's explanation's of each activity and phase of an ESA lesson were also particularly useful in identifying at which points there is a danger of teacher talk-time becoming too high. Identifying these areas will allow me to look out for this in the future, and as a result, hopefully ensure that my classes are as student-centred and effective as possible. I think that this unit will be incredibly useful for future lesson planning and is a great read for both new and experienced teachers, simply as it gives such an in depth analysis of the important features of English language classes.
