Teach English in Lanwei XiAng - Chongzuo Shi
When teaching the teacher should equally pay attention to the eye contact he/she is setting up with the students, gestures and the tone of voice. All these actions should be appropriately adjusted to the class situations. When it comes to the different social forms of classwork, the teacher should combine them according to the type of contents/activities. For instance, if he/she wants to teach a new topic for the first time, frontal form of classwork would be the best option, but in the case of interview-practice activity, pair work would be a better solution. In order to activate students? learning, teachers? talking time should be minimized. That could certainly lead to discipline problems. When dealing with such problems, teachers should take into consideration the following: ways for preventing problem behaviour, classroom arrangement, ways of making instructions effective, ways to establish rapport, etc. What have I learnt? The Unit has provided me with some practical tips. The tips which I?ve found the most useful are related with writing on the board (how to reduce the time spent with the back to the class), establishing rapport and maintaining discipline (preventing problem behaviour). If/when I?ll find myself in some of these problematic situations, I?ll definitely try to use the tips.
