Teach English in Baowei XiAng - Chongzuo Shi
This unit is a lot of stuff to take in, because future tenses have so many ways and uses. Add to that, even present simple and present continuous can be used as a future tense so long as they have future meanings. As was mentioned, be going to future and present continuous are the most frequently used future tense. But so is future simple if you want to talk about predictions (which we all love to do) based on no present evidence, promises and future facts and certainties, assumptions and speculations, spontaneous decisions and threats. I personally, have never used shall for future tenses (unless I want to be poetic or sound Shakespearean). Future continuous also have a lot of usages, like when you want to say something will be in progress at a future specific time, for example. Other future tenses, like the future perfect which is used to say that an action will have been completed, achieved or done by a certain time in the future, the future perfect continuous which tells how long an action will have continued by a certain time, the be going to future which talks about intentions, predictions based on present evidence and plans will be interesting to teach and comparing it to present continuous. The different structures (or forms) of the different future tenses are all I believe to be mastered before teaching them.
