learning mode young vs adultsis of great importance for the teacher to know how to approach teaching learners of different age. It is obviously a mistake if you think you can walk into a class of 9 year olds with a lesson plan that was originally prepared for college students. The duty and role of the teacher is to understand the needs and interests of different age groups to maximize learning. It is impossible to expect children to sit in one place and listen to a lecture on grammar points and then learn the new language and use it. The most effective way to teach children is through playing as they are full of energy and excitement. We need to find ways of using this energy in the learning process. Although young learners usually are made to attend a class by an adult and lack motivation in this respect, they have minds that absorb knowledge very fast and they are ready to learn, throughout the day, form every single activity they do and never get tired. Children learn with all of their senses, they listen, touch and feel, look, smell, and move in order to learn and gain experience. They like colorful environment that is full of excitement with different activities. They like playing and the most effective way you can teach them is through different interesting individual and group activities. young learners like to be noticed and praised by their teacher all the time and crave for the individual attention they can get from their teacher. For this reason a teacher of young learners should be prepared to come down to the physical level of the students, sit beside them, play with them, color with them and show them that he is sharing with them the enjoyment of the activities they do. Children have a short concentration span and the teacher needs to facilitate himself with loads of fun, interesting and varied activities to keep the children's attention engaged throughout the lesson. It is useful to use a variety of activities like singing, coloring, painting, playing games, making shows, and different movement activities to achieve the best possible results in the teaching process. Adults, on the other hand, are able to sit in one place and listen to the teacher. They are usually self motivated and have a reason for attending the class. They can learn by repeated conscious practice and deliberate use of new language learned. Class environment for adults is usually less colorful, although they would also benefit from some unusual class setting or some fun group activities. Although adults are usually slower in learning than young learners, they have a life full of experience with them which is invaluable when the teacher is trying to encourage discussions or introduce different activities in a session. Adults can use their life experiences to make the lesson discussions interesting and enjoyable as even in adults, learning takes place through connecting the new knowledge to real life experiences. Therefore the teacher needs to find subjects and prompts that are interesting to adults and encourage them to use the language learned to express their opinion. Because of these clear differences between the ways young learners and adults learn, it is necessary for the teacher to know in which group his students fall, before preparing a lesson plan.
