Completing my TEFL Teacher Training has given me the knowledge and understanding I need to be a confident teacher. I have learned the qualities, roles and responsibilities of both teachers and students. I know that a teacher is kind, patient, lively, and a motivation to others. The teacher has to be able to effectively take charge of the classroom and care about the students progress. Manager, facilitator, assessor and organizer are all ways to describe a teacher's role. Grammar in the english area make many nervous but my TEFL training has given me the confidence to recognize and classify parts of speech. Nouns, plurals, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, prepositions and conjunctions are just some of the many areas that I feel comfortable teaching. After learning the tense systems, classroom management became my focus. After completing that unit I realized that the teacher must be able to inspire confidence in the students and the teacher must know when to be firm as well as when to leave the students alone. Teaching new language, vocabulary and functions requires the students to be exposed to the language, understand its meaning and be able to practice it. This is where the ESA methods were introduced. This teaching concept works so well and seems to be the best way for me to organize my lesson plans. The straight arrow, boomerang and patchwork approach are very beneficial. There are so many different tenses and ideas that can be used with future meanings. I learned that the tense system can seem difficult and takes a active approach when teaching. Receptive skills like reading and listening are important in every language. Giving students a reason to listen is essential and motivating. Lesson planning included a number of important functions like a working document, aid to planning and a record. I found that the lesson planning unit helped me in many ways to organize my thoughts and keep my own personal goals in regards to the class' progress. The other areas I gained knowledge in include, teaching special groups, teaching productive skills like speaking and writing. Phonology and pronunciation, equipment, teaching aids and english grammar are all areas that reinforced the understanding of the EFL methodology. Overall, this course has given me the resources and information to help jump start my TEFL career. I currently teach kindergarten in South Korea and this course has given me the guidance and training I needed to create a wonderful environment for my students.
