On the one hand, I had known most of the things in this course before I started it. Of course I had known all the grammar rules and difficulties from my own learning process and from tutoring experience, but I had also known most of the theoretical stuff, either from paying attention in class as a student or from university courses. Nonetheless, this course was really good and summarizes a whole lot of aspects in simple words in 20 units. It helped me focus on various topics and made me pay attention to different processes in the classroom. On the one hand I had a good time working on the units, on the other hand (as I am usually quite lazy) it sometimes took me ages to finish the worksheets and I kept on procrastinating which lead to unhappiness as that did not get the workload out of my way. As I kept on working on the last units, this changed, however. I still had enough time to finish them all without being stressed as I tried to work on them regularly. So the course helped me to develop my skills for working on a task not at the last minute but a little more planned and relaxed. I will also use the course materials as a reference in the future. I am not straight away going to be a 'real' TEFL teacher but I am already tutoring some students in english and I will definitely use (actually I am already using it) some things that I have learned in this course. For one group that I have to prepare for their final exams I have already adapted lesson planning and the ESA method. Furthermore I will make use of a lot of the teaching ideas that were presented to me in the course and try to develop my own games, exercises, etc. I won't straight away start working as a TEFL teacher as I am currently beginning my BA degree in english and I do not yet have the chance nor time to teach properly. But once I do I will adapt a lot of the ideas of this course and personalize them to suit my own style. When the time comes I will be able to present this certificate and say: Hey, I'm qualified to be a teacher! :-) As I enjoyed this course a lot I am thinking of continuing my TEFL education and enroll for the tefl diploma at some point in the future. I really liked working at my own pace, making my own schedule for this online degree. This also helped me a lot to prepare for my studies, as I am attending a distance learning program instead of studying at a brick and mortar university. To sum up my experiences and personal gain from this course: It was a win-win situation. For me, because I had a good time and learned something, and for my future employers, as they will have a skilled, certified and motivated teacher!
