I have gained an incredible amount of insight from this course. Some of which I plan to use in the future, and some I have already begun to use. From the unit on lesson planning, I have been enthralled about the ESA set-up. It makes so much sense to cover content and then ask the students to immediately apply it. I have started to structure my own lesson plans this way and my students continue to be engaged and on task. Plus their retention has increased. Also, I appreciated the in-depth look at different levels of learners. I never considered the fundamental differences between young learners and adult learners?mainly because I?m young and have never thought about teaching older adults. I am the kind of person who likes to be prepared, so knowing the difficulties or obstacles in teaching adults is quite beneficial. Along the same note, I enjoyed looking at the different reasons for my students being in my class and the importance of authenticity in tasks. Teaching public elementary school sometimes puts me in the mindset that the students have to be there. Therefore, sometimes we do abstract fun activities that might get the students to think in a different way, but don?t really have a real-world context. With EFL classes I need to remember to keep everything practical (I have tried to reiterate this concept in several worksheets). Of course the variety of teaching ideas and resources is phenomenal. I plan to save my TEFL documents in several locations so I always have the websites and game ideas at my disposal.
