Classroom ManagementSome teachers believe that classroom management is one of the most important aspects of teaching. Teaching effectively and producing positive learning environments may be difficult to achieve without rapport and respect between the teacher and students. There are many strategies and theories on how to create good classroom management but it usually depends on the teacher. The instructor can create their own strategies based on personal preference and link them with information from other sources. Also, creating a relationship of trust with students and keeping an open mind may be helpful when developing a plan for providing good classroom management. One important view point is the relationship between the teacher and the students. The teacher will benefit from gaining respect from students by being fair, consistent and firm. Understanding how to be an adviser to the students and not their friend will help gain trust which may produce a willingness on their part to participate. It will be easier to begin a class with a firm attitude and gradually become more lenient after building rapport with students. It is also important to show the students that you care about their interest and ideas. Allowing the learners to give suggestions about rules or topics can create a fun and motivating classroom experience. Another way to create an enjoyable classroom environment for the teacher and students is to focus on positive reinforcement and to provide incentives for participation. Praising the students for correct responses can help build their self-confidence. This confidence may encourage an eagerness to contribute to the class even if they are unsure of their answers. The teacher can communicate that making mistakes is part of the process of learning a new language. Giving incentives for participation can help engage the students and allow more opportunities for fun activities. students may be more willing to complete homework or class work properly because they will receive a prize for doing so. Younger learners have a shorter attention span than adults. It can be beneficial for the teacher to take this into consideration and plan interesting and various activities for the students. Boredom from learners can cause distractions in the classroom. Planning activates and topics in the form of games is a good way to solve problems for disengaged students. If the students think they are playing a game they will be willing to participate and may not realize that they are learning. Another way to encourage students is to send home positive notes to parents. These notes will help the students know that the teacher cares about their progress and attitude. The instructor can also give special responsibilities to students in class to help motivate them to participate. The teacher is the one who sets the tone and expectations for the class. Therefore, they should be willing to get to know their students and set a good example. The students may be more comfortable relating to the teacher if he/she also follows the rules of the class. This action expresses to the students that the teacher is not above the rules and assists in good classroom management. Overall, creating good classroom management depends on the teacher and the company for which he/she works. However, maintaining a positive attitude and being persistent will benefit the teacher as well as the students.
