This course has been an essential step in my process to become an ESL instructor. Although I have a background in tutoring and mentoring children from ages 6-18 much if not all of the information I have learned during this course has opened my eyes about teaching english to both native and non-native speakers. Before I had no knowledge about teaching methodologies, such as ESA-Engage, Study and Activate, which are extremely beneficial in a classroom, not only for students but also for new teachers. The units on lesson planning and class management will definitely come into play when I plan to create lessons for my first ESL class in a foreign country. Not only that, but reviewing grammar was integral for building my own english skills. I often lack focusing on these grammar rules, especially during daily discourse where one tends to use slang and other unique local terms. Now I am able to analyze my own speech/writing patterns and relate them to someone who might be learning english and how to go about finding the best way to teach these rules. Each unit gives me the tools on becoming a unique, well-rounded, open-minded and prepared instructor who will do their best at doing their job. There is no doubt that I will go back to reviewing the course for tips/ideas, especially during my first year of teaching.
