I found the 120 hour online course great for me because I have to work full time. I have been able to complete the course at a time and pace that was of benefit to me, not only because of my work but I have had to go back in time to revisit my previous education. Firstly, I have had to go back in time and revisit work that I did forty years ago and I had forgotten, there was work in this course that was not done then, teaching methods and practices were completely different. I have taken this course, not only as a refresher but as a means of being able improve my own education and also to be a good teacher with no bad habits. This will be a new and complete fresh start for me on a blank piece of paper. There are many areas in this course that are challenging and rewarding. I have benefited greatly from it; it has given me a very good working knowledge of the english grammatical system and given me more confidence in my own ability to teach it. My awareness now is enhanced and this course has given me the techniques and skills that I need and require to be a good english Language teacher. I now feel very confident to go on to teach english as a foreign language and I feel I will be successful in this new field for me. I will be putting into action what I have learned next year when I retire to my bungalow in thailand. I have been teaching my Thai wife english for the past 18 months and she is now at a good standard, because of this, local people have been asking her who has been teaching her and could I teach them. I was asked by two teachers in two different local schools, if I would be so kind and go into the schools as a volunteer and assist them in teaching the english language. I could see from this experience that I could help teach english, however I could also see that I would have to have a better knowledge of the correct teaching practices. At first I will be going to teach as a volunteer in the local schools, I will be teaching young Thai children to help them learn and develop their new english language skills, but they will also have contact with a person who is english, this will be of great benefit to them when it comes to gestures and pronunciation. In the mean time I have a new building which was a shop, this will be converted into a classroom and I will then be teaching english as a foreign language in a private capacity. This will be a great introduction into teaching and I can then build up my own school and at the same time tap into the local resources.
