Through completing this course I have gained a better understanding of the mechanics of the english language through the units on grammar which will help me to teach it as now I have been explicitly taught the rules for the language that comes so naturally to me. This has given me a deeper appreciation for the difficulty that people have with learning english as the rules are complex, even as a native speaker, I found some aspects difficult. I feel that I now understand some of the theory and pedagogies underpinning TEFL as well as gaining practical skills in finding and developing resources and planning lessons. As a high school english teacher, I will be able to implement many of the things that I have learned in this course into my everyday classroom practice as statistics tell us that in almost every classroom in australian schools, there are students from non-english speaking backgrounds. I also hope to teach overseas in the future and the skills I have gained in this course will be of use to me in that capacity. In short, not only has this course given me a better understanding of the english language and equipped me with the skills to be able to teach it, it will be of use to me in my future teaching career, regardless of what context I am teaching in.
