English as a Global LanguageEnglish, widely spoken, widely use, a language that makes the whole world speak as one. Without a global language, the world would be a world of confusion for we would not be able to communicate with each other. But having the lingua franca, the multilingual world understands each other, making global economy and political progress and making the expansion of cultural and socio-biological aspect of humanity an interactive one. There are many different languages in the world, many tongues speaks and means one yet unable the world is unable to hear because of the different language unknown to some and even more. But having English, an amazing language, which the shear amount of people speaking it is breath-taking, absolutely make learning to speak and communicate with it worthwhile. Statistically, English is the world?s second largest native language, the official language in 70 countries, and english speaking countries which is responsible for about 40% of the World?s total GNP and with about 400 million people who are primary speaker of the language and nearly 2 billion people around the globe who are English speakers; it needs not an argument making the language global. Background and origin Historically, the language is one of the West Germanic descend, with origin in Anglo-Saxon england. The language is a culmination of many words from pre-existing languages around the world, but specifically influenced by the Old Norse Language of the Vikings. After the Normans were conquered, it became Old English, then later transformed into what we called as the Middle Language, which was borrowed mostly from their language, in terms of spelling and vocabulary. Shortly thereafter, Modern English was developed, coming along with what was called the Great Vowel Shift, which happened in 15th Century English, where they incorporated words from a great score of different languages and dialects. From this, the use of more and more words that rooted in Greek and Latin especially in the use of technical words started. English came from a long way in terms of development but then to these days it continually grows up conforming to the demands of the existing generation, technology, science, media and arts, diplomacy, trade and commerce and many aspects that the world is perpetually emerging and growing. In summation, English is something of a beautiful language, and people around the world have been studying it for a number of years for them to learn it as best as they possibly can. In learning English, one is opening the world to come into his being as this would lead to personal growth and development. Evident to that is that we are able to communicate to all the people around the globe through the advancement that technology has offered to us nowadays. The different languages that we have as our mother tongue do not hinder us to establish ties and connections from all around because English as the global language gives this chance to connect and stay connected, communicate, express and be heard. English as global language unifies the world to grow as one, giving a chance and opportunity and allowing the people around it to become one leading to a world of harmony, peace and progress not just individuals but as nations bond by one language.
