As I think about what I?ve learned during this course, the lessons on grammar stand out as offering the most knowledge. To be honest, I knew very few of the rules covered in this course prior to its completion. I speak using correct grammar more often than not, but had no understanding of the defined rules. I believe my newfound grammatical knowledge will be used most often in the ESL classroom. However, the specific lessons about teaching skills will be drawn upon as time goes on. I plan to keep all of the units as a reference to look back on. More than anything, the course gave me a good idea of what I will encounter as an ESL teacher. It also helped me to begin to prepare. A prerequisite for an experienced teacher is experience. The knowledge of this course will be drawn upon, but time and practice will solidify and continue to shape things learned. Once I enter the classroom, I will enter with the confidence of having completed this course. I?m sure I will use a course book and hopefully information from Unit 14 will come to mind in using the course book. If I follow the structure of the course book, I may not use the lesson plan outline from this course. However, I will be sure to look outside the course book for planning the lesson. The lessons about building rapport with students and ensuring there is a positive classroom environment are important. Also, spending time on word pronunciation and sentence intonation are important lesson points. I am glad to have a tesol certificate to show my teaching competency. It is my hope that, once in the classroom, I will enjoy teaching and be able to grow into a good teacher.
