From this course, I have gained many ideas that I will use in my classes, and learnt much information about the theory of teaching english to non-native speakers. It is my philosophy with teaching that the most important thing for a teacher is to know his or her students. After this the teacher must adapt his or her classes to the needs and requirements of the class. This course has given me many tools that can be used in the ESL classroom. I think it is very important for the teacher to be well prepared when he or she enters the classroom, and this course has taught me many things when it comes to making lesson plans and preparing for class in general. This course has set out a very clear methodology which is both structured and flexible to variation. It takes time to be a good teacher because every student is different and the journey of every teacher has many obstacles to overcome. I believe that with time a teacher can discover his or her own persona in the classroom and work to his or her strengths, but it is very important for any teacher to have a good grasp of the basic ideas and theories behind teaching. Without this solid foundation, teachers can flounder and find themselves getting frustrated with the unsatisfactory returns that they get from their students. I hope to take from this course a good knowledge of many of the key elements of being a ESL teacher, and use them with my experience to become a better teacher who can both educate and inspire my students.
