Teach English in ShAndong Jiedao - Chongqing
This course has been extremely interesting and helpful to me. It has provided valuable foundation in TEFL and significant opportunities for development as a teacher. This course reinforced the notion that it requires much more than being a native speaker to be an effective teacher of that language! The aspects of the course that I have found most valuable are the theory and structure; grammar units, teaching ideas/methods/techniques, the unlimited resources, and the lesson planning instruction. I am not a trained teacher. That said, I have taught english to monolingual groups (children and adults) in their own country and did so with limited resources and no training. The aspects of the course I?ve just mentioned would have been helpful and will be extremely useful when I teach again in the future. I have a degree in Education-Counseling, and have worked primarily in human services setting where training, teaching, group facilitation and interpersonal communication are critical integral parts of the required work. Even though I have a strong foundation in education and the human relations aspects of working with people, I found the related units of this course (classroom management, teachers and learners, trouble shooting, teaching special groups) were compelling and useful. They expanded my education foundation and helped reinforce and refresh some areas of previous study. These units added critical information to how some dynamics of education can be different in TEFL. My next step will be to volunteer or ?intern? in a local classroom, and to find EFL tutoring opportunities, to further put the course material to work. I plan to do both in order to add to my experience with group classroom and to try one on one teaching.
