Role of the TeacherAs children develop, they learn through the involvement of teachers. Teachers' roles aren't merely to present information, but to be valuable leaders in our society that shape our own roles and viewpoints quite early on. This places a tremendous amount of importance upon the profession and as such, teachers are regarded as not having one specific role but many. These roles are as follows: a presenter, a motivator, and an encouragement at large. The first role that teachers must play out is one typically reserved for teachers, and that is of being presenters of information. As presenters, teachers must disperse information that is relevant and specific to the subject and class level. Also, teachers have to effectively communicate concepts and methods which may be entirely new to students. Language itself can be an incredibly abstract topic, and so an instructor must go to lengths to make sure students are able to comprehend and implement such information. This also requires the teacher to become a bit more involved in the students' lives, learning about their interests and how they grasp the material in order to further tailor future lesson plans. Opposed to traditional manners of speaking or writing the lesson on the board, teachers are now being regarded as guides, interacting with students and charting them through the unknown territory of a class course, with a sense of ease that comes with knowing the material. Accordingly, a teacher must be a leader, setting the context and tone for the class activities and environment. The environment of a classroom should always be one of comfort and positivity, allowing students to learn and experiment without the fear of failure. It is a teacher's prime responsibility to cultivate and maintain this atmosphere of warmth, which goes hand-in-hand with a teacher's second role: the teacher as a motivator. A student's enthusiasm is often reflected in the instructor's own, and therefore the teacher has a huge responsibility in being a motivator. As the teacher sets the tone and environment for the classroom, so he/she also must create a condition for curiosity within the students. Teachers should have a genuine interest in the subject, in order to understand it in addition to expressing that sense of interest to the students. Likewise, it is pertinent to note that teachers have to find ways to bring out students' individual potential. While often difficult, This is a key reason why teachers are looked up to so much, and remembered years afterward. Frequently, teachers have an uncanny ability at seeing the potential within students, and with their expertise can find a way to mine something students didn't even know they had. This is a phenomenal skill, and is a prime reason why teachers are still regarded as agents of change in their own right. Finally, the last role is similar to that of a motivator, but continues well after a student's initial moment of inspiration: the role of encouragement. A teacher can provide a spark, but they must also continually fan those embers with encouragement. It's easy for a student to become interested in a subject, but with encouragement a teacher can make sure that student completes the course or subject with the same amount of vigor. Usually associated with longevity, teachers must provide encouragement sometimes even after the course has ended, in the form of being a mentor or role model. Much has been written about whether or not teachers can be considered role models, but the fact remains that teachers, by default, are put in positions to be looked up to by students in terms of age, wisdom, and their obvious positions as leaders within the classroom. Therefore, teachers should still understand that role and find their own place within that title. In conclusion, teachers are increasingly playing the parts of many roles, accommodating societal changes, and setting examples for his/her students. Through being a presenter, a motivator, and an encouragement, teachers continually accomplish the tasks of not only getting through coursework but aiding in the development of a younger generation, helping to shape minds that will eventually shape our world. It is a profession rooted in optimism, and is surely here to stay.
