In my real-world job, I have just finished writing an interactive whiteboard program for American middle-school students. The program is all about vocabulary and grammar! I can honestly say, that through this TEFL course, I have been introduced to some aspects of english grammar that are new to me. I have found in the past that studying a foreign language or writing a book explaining english grammar forces you to truly understand language in new ways. As a native english speaker, correct usage sounds "right" to me and I use it instinctively. As a beginning TEFL teacher, I am learning to take my language usage apart block by block and build it back together logically with clear, easy-to-understand explanations. That is a valuable lesson for any teacher. The overview lessons on educational philosophy and the classroom have been worthwhile summaries. I am anxious to connect my new skills and understandings to real classroom settings. Just as beginning language students need to connect the vocabulary they are learning to their real world, I need to connect my new methods to real students in a real classroom. I believe I will continue growing as I work hard to help my students learn english.
