I enjoyed doing this course because I wasn?t familiar with EFL methodology before and it has really opened my eyes to how different a lesson can be arranged. I went to school in Germany and the kind of methodology that is used by many english teachers is ?a system of translation? and the focus is often rather on grammar than on conversation, listening skills and real life topics. The result is that many German students finish school feeling very insecure about their language skills lacking fluency as well as vocabulary. That is a sobering outcome considering that they?ve had at least 8 years of learning english! Completing this course I know the importance of well-balanced lessons now and would teach classes in a totally different way. It was also helpful to me to revise the english grammar, learn how to plan a lesson and to evaluate the students? progress. I don?t know exactly how I?m going to use what I?ve learned because for the last couple of months I have been working in the field of public relations and right now I?m expecting my first child (due at the end of January). Probably my husband and I will stay in Germany for the next one or two years but afterwards we might live abroad for a while and I would love to use what I?ve learned to teach others. As long as we?re in Germany I will continue giving private tuition and I might as well try to teach some classes in the local public school. In any case I have benefited greatly from taking this course and I am excited to find out what the future holds.
