Indeed I have gain a lot through this course. As an adult learner, my motivation is to complete this course and get myself certified as an english teacher of foreign language. Having retired early from work, I need gainful employment so that I might live a meaningful life. I found that teaching is one of the most satisfying jobs in my retirement days. I enjoyed learning about theories of teaching and learning very much. Firstly, teachers and learners relationship is most important for learning to take place. A teacher has the following roles; manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model and a monitor. As such, life as a teacher is never dull. Secondly, a good teacher needs to understand the learners and to know a bit of psychology of how different age groups learn. Knowing their motivation, experiences and behavior of each group helps the teacher to meet their needs whether mentally, physically or socially. It helps the teacher to know the learners and to plan lessons wisely. Thirdly, I am exposed to the theories, methods, and techniques of teaching. This is the first time I learned these as a teacher. If I have learnt them in the early years of my teaching career I would not have resigned later on. Among the 3 methods of teaching I like the ESA easiest to apply while I found the Patchwork and Boomerang methods quite challenging. However, the course always contains exercises in lesson planning that require me to do some planning in the latter methods. In this way I am able to familiarize myself with their usages. Fourthly the unit on lesson planning helps me to format my teaching points, my objectives, my materials, visuals etc. It sets my mind focused on the essential things to do before class and during class. Preparing lesson plans are so important that I am given so many plans to do at the end of the course. I find that repetition helps me to learn more effectively. Fifthly, the ESA demonstration of class One and class Two was interesting and captivating. The comparison between a good model and a bad one gave me a deep impression and challenged me to do well. Finally, I found that the last few units really help me to spruce up my english. I have to relearn about Pronunciation and phonology, Coursebooks and Materials, Evaluation and Testing, Conditionals and Reported Speech, Modals and Passive Voice. Although they posed big challenges to me they help to prepare me thoroughly for a future teaching job. I would conclude that by putting all that I have learnt from this course would make me a good teacher. I would utilize all the materials in this course and especially the Grammar structure and usage for my future teaching. Throughout the course, the online tutor has been most patient with me and I received excellent guidance and teaching points from him. I appreciate him.
