I came to this course thinking I would just learn grammar. However I learned something much more. A teacher can't only teach her students grammar and vocabulary and no more. I've learned that teachers have to motivate their students. The best way to motivate them is by engaging them early in the class. Once they are motivated they focus and understand the lesson much better. But it doesn't stop there. It is important for the teacher to balance studying and fun. Instead of letting them work on exercises by themselves, it's better to put them in pairs in order to increase their motivation and productivity. Also, before the class is over its important for the students to summarize whatever they learned during activities. This will strengthen their fluency and give them a confidence boost. Besides the methodology of teaching, I also learned to appreciate pronunciation and phonology. Where you put the stress on the sentence could change its meaning. Also I have learned to challenge students in their productive and receptive skills. Without listening, speaking, writing, and reading, the student will not only learn the language with mistakes but he will also be de-motivated once he comes in contact with authentic materials. Last but not least, I've learned valuable grammar rules and verb conjugation. I also learned how to teach them using different fun activities.
