Being an english native speaker it is often very easy to take for granted the amount of knowledge in the language that use in everyday situations and even in academic settings. Taking the course, it has given me a sense of perspective how difficult learning a language as an EFL student who has never really had any exposure to the language may have. Taken this course it has also expanded my understanding on how to structure and lead a class and give lesson plans. Taking this course has provided me with the many factors and the many problems that may arise when teaching students of different language knowledge. It has given perspective on both young and old, experienced and not so experienced, and how much there really is to learn and teach. Before taking the course I never considered too much the points of grammar and they?re structured taking them for granted through common everyday usage. I have just started teaching a monolingual group with a very limited knowledge of the english language and very different culture; it can be very difficult trying to understand where their strengths and weaknesses lay with language barriers existing. I hope to pass on my knowledge of various cultures and perspectives of the world and expand and learn from the culture I am teaching. Prior to this course, I had never really looked too much into lesson planning and how to cater to students needs as well classroom management and dealing with behavior. Taking the course has given me a foot in the door to learn and understand how this works although it is beginning to be more and more about applying knowledge taught in these courses and using your own personal situation to work around them and they may accommodate the situation. As every teaching situation and every classroom has their own sort of unique dynamic. Currently teaching is allowing me more and more to realize the usefulness of the material here, as it is doesn?t become relevant until the situations and planning is really required. Overall I feel that course was structured and useful, as it covered all the important theoretical concepts of the language, but also the very practical behavioural and classroom management based situations. Lesson planning has been the biggest take away for me as I had previous to this never had the chance to be formally educated in education and has been of great assistance teaching overseas at the moment. This has been very useful in boosting confidence in teaching.
