I started this course with a good deal of trepidation and concern that I would not be able to complete it due to the material and the fear of what a Present Participles even was. Well, I was wrong. I have managed to get through this course without too many moments 'panic'. I have not always been totally correct all the time, but what I have received from these Units has been a much better (if only slightly upon occasion confusing) knowledge of the english language and all of its parts, rules, formats, and structures. I found that I was amazed at those intricacies of the english language that I up till this point had only given to the learning of say french or German. I am sure that they were all covered at some point in my earlier education, but over time I seemed to have forgotten them... if they were ever really in my head at all. In particular... the format of the english language. It has enabled me to understand, identify, and explain each of the elements that go into speaking and writing in english. For speaking english is as natural to me as breathing for the most part. One does not think about how to say something, one just says it. Writing is a bit different, but there again one does not take into account the way in which one is constructing the sentence...it simply 'flows' naturally So what did I get out of this course? Just what I needed to feel confident again. Even though I have taught in the past (moons ago now in nyc) I feel that I am much better able now to face another classroom and be able to bring to it a concise and directed ability to teach not just english but any other subject. For the methods are the same, just not the topics. My plan, with regards to my Certificate which I will be very proud to have been able to accomplish, is to teach in South East Asia (thailand is my particular target country). Though my age (54) is a bit 'out there' I am looking forward to being able to apply what I have learned and absorbed through this course and throughout my life and all that I have done, in order to do the best job that I am able to do and to share with my students a much larger World that is at their feet if they choose to explore it. I could go on, but in short, I feel that this course was very well structured and covered the material in such a way as to make it clear, well defined, and easy to understand. Also through the help of my tutor who was always there with a direction or 'three', it also gave me the confidences that are necessary to enter a classroom and teaching right from the start. It has been a very real pleasure to have been a part and I do look forward to moving ahead with a far greater confidence and assuredness than I came in with.
