Why Complete A TEFL CourseWhen I first started exploring the idea of teaching English, I was overwhelmed with all of the information online. I knew that I wanted to move overseas, and teaching English seemed like the best way to achieve that goal. Hours of research went into learning about different countries and the requirements for teaching English. One thing that stood out about each of the different countries that I was interested in teaching in was the requirement for a tefl certification. So I began learning about TEFL and the courses available to get this certification. The reasons to complete a tefl course were plenty. First, it would give me the ability to be able to teach English anywhere in the world! This was a dream come true. I also noticed completing a tefl course could increase the wages I expected to earn. Knowing that I didn`t have a teaching background was a bit of a deterrent at first, however, completing a tefl course would give me the experience and knowledge that I needed to pursue this exciting career change. As I continued to research global teaching opportunities, I learned that although some countries didn`t require tefl certification, having completed a tefl course could open more doors for me. I learned that pursuing a longer tefl course, 100 + hours, could add as much as $100 a month onto my salary if I decided to teach in korea. Years ago I was unfamiliar with TEFL. It seems like today TEFL is all of the rage. students talk about getting their tefl certification so that they can travel and see the world after graduation. I wish I knew about this back when I graduated! Along with all of the benefits available to me for taking a tefl course, I also realized that taking a proper tefl course would benefit the future students that I taught. People in other countries need to learn English. There are many good reasons why these people want or need to improve their English language skills. English is the language of global trade, and also very important in worldwide scientific research and academic study. In order for individuals to get new jobs they need to learn or improve their English, and I knew that without the proper teaching skills that a good tefl course could provide, I would be doing my students a serious injustice. My belief is simple. If you are going to do something, you need to do it properly, and taking the training provided through a tefl course is the proper way. Teaching in an English language school can be a very rewarding experience. students can often be highly motivated and already have an aptitude for languages. Some classes can be made up of adults, while other teachers might prefer to work with younger learners, or even on a one-to-one basis. With so many tefl jobs available worldwide, there are plenty of options out there. This is why TEFL qualifications are so important. Taking a recognized tefl course can make you competitive in this global industry, and I am glad that I decided to pursue the tefl course that I did . Although not mandatory, having completed a tefl course will not just give you the tools that you need to be an effective teacher, but it will also give you the confidence that you need when it comes time to board that airplane and venture out into the wonderful world that we live in.
