1) Confidence. This course has instilled a sense of confidence in my knowledge of the english language and my ability to teach english as a language. 2) Classroom management. Having only worked with challenging groups before in prisons etc. this course has helped me develop a coherent understanding of regular classroom management practices which I shall put in place in terms of group work activities, classroom layout and so on. 3) Accent. Having a broad Yorkshire accent, I was concerned about passing this on to students but the lesson on stress and pronunciation gave me some skills I will put in place to ensure that the people I teach can develop a standard english accent. For example, singing sentences and always pronouncing them in RP english so the students can learn such pronunciations. 4) ESA. Using ESA, patchwork and boomerang lessons is a simple and effective way of ensuring the objectives can be met in the teaching of the lessons and that students remain interested in the course as a variety of teaching methods are employed. I will use this by planning my lessons according to ESA, patchwork and boomerang plans. 5) Lesson materials. I may have been tempted to resort to using a coursebook with students and sticking to it (this was what happened when I learned languages at school), but this course has shown me the validity of stepping away from coursebooks, and I intend to not use them where possible, or if necessary, substitute and add to them with authentic materials to build up the confidence of students. 6) Teaching a variety of students. The lesson on teaching different groups was useful and again built my confidence in doing so. 7) Lots more! The course has been very thorough, insightful and practical in terms of the way it is taught and how as a student I put the material into use. I could write everything I have learnt but that would make this a 500 word essay!
