At first, I want to say something about my own experience with learning the english language. english was the second foreign language I was introduced to after Russian and before french. I wasn't particularly interested in Russian or french and rather forced to learn them, with little success. english was different for it is dominant in everyday life and the media, music, film and the dominant language in travel, business and, of course, the internet. So I learned english in school, college and at the university over the course of 12 years. But having had non-native speaking teachers and only average exposure to creative use of the language left me with a solid foundation of structures and vocabulary. By the time I started traveling the world I learned that only a frequent use under natural conditions really makes a difference. There are ways to recreate these conditions in a non-english speaking country, like DVD's in english with english subtitles and english books. Living and working in english speaking countries for almost 4 years now made me realize how my love for the english language gave me the motivation to further my studies. At the same time I met lots of people from all over the world with different approaches of learning and levels of language that gave me an impression of the problems students are facing and that introduced the idea of teaching english to me. When I started this course I had virtually no idea what to expect and even though it was alright for me to do it online I think most students do prefer the classroom to the laptop. My gain from this course was that it had proved my abilities when it comes to grammar and vocabulary. All the aspects of teaching were new and made me think about my experiences with teachers in 20 years in public educational institutions. Facing now the situation of jumping into the deep end makes me feel nervous, but I think this course supplied me with some valuable tools, ideas and even access to an international network of people with a common interest in language. I admit that I wasn't too happy with some of the tasks in the worksheets, but that was probably rather based on the nature of online-studies. Now that I've come to the point of applying for jobs, I face the problem that every employer emphasizes that they are only looking for native speaking teachers and so I have to see if someone will give me the opportunity to gain experience and to pass on my passion for language to future students. I have no plan how to put into action what I've learned here until I start my first lesson and get acquainted with the students.
