From this course I've mainly learned that I have made quite a bit of progress in being aware of my native language and how to communicate its patterns, nuances, and components, yet there is quite a lot still to learn about it. I am encouraged that now having done some more extensive study of english that I will both be able to better sympathize with my students, as well as possess some helpful techniques for learning that I could share with the class. I don't think I would have made a very good teacher without this training, because I was quite unprepared and naive even about my own language. As I was taking this course, I was also substitute teaching in public schools in classrooms of all grade levels in my hometown, and I found that even though these were not my own classrooms, I could still implement some of what I was learning, such as motivating students, presenting and explaining classroom materials, building rapport with students quickly and effectively, gaining better classroom management and discipline skills, and much more. As far as my perspective towards teaching english as a second language itself, I have learned more about the structure and other various aspects (such as intonation, stresses, tenses, physiology, and areas of use like reading and listening) of my language than I think I have since I was a young child. It was extremely helpful to me and I believe I am better prepared to teach my native language to other students of it. Ultimately though, as much as I have learned, I now know that there is much to learn (as illustrated by the 87+ choices for the research project in task 3). In the future I intend to continue learning in some way, perhaps mainly in reading books for EFL teachers and discussing EFL with other teachers and students. I intend to make typed lesson plans for every lesson for my own records in the least, to utilize some of the activity ideas in the text of the lessons when needed, and to review the text if I need refreshment in understanding or technique on something before I teach the lesson. Overall, I am really looking forward to being able to implement these things and to meeting my students and diving into learning with them.
