Teach English in Dianshui Jiedao - Chongqing
From this course, I've learned a great deal about not only the importance of why teachers must understand how to teach ESL/EFL, but also what to expect in a lesson, and how to be prepared for each lesson. Although many people tend to think that teaching english is like translating it in their mother tongue, and there are those who think it does not matter what groups you teach as long as you are a native english speaker, that is a big mistake. We must understand that there are many types of students that range from those who have had some english background to those who have absolute zero background; those who are young learners, and those who are adult learners, all at different levels with different purposes and goals. It is also important that just because one speaks fluent english, it does not mean that one can teach the language, especially to those who may have zero english background. Not only have I learned how to teach important grammar points such as how to teach different grammar points, I've also learned what types of resources to use and its purposes, advantages, and disadvantages. I feel confident about my lesson plans after having a tutor look over what I have planned. The feedbacks and links to helpful websites assures me that I'm ready to teach a wide variety of groups ranging from beginners to more advanced students of different age groups. I personally prefer to teach young learners, especially those around the age of 4-6 who really enjoy hands on activities, chants, games, etc. I know the importance of being visual as possible, including a variety of activities to keep them focused, and to make sure that the focus of the lesson stays on the theme with the purpose of learning english.
