Unit 5, \"Teaching Themes\", provides many excellent resources for teacher and students. The lesson plans provided clearly demonstrate the ESA method. The introduction to Speech Act Theory was new to me, and added to my linguistic-specific vocabulary. Explanations on how to use case studies, authentic material, board games, etc. were very helpful for the lesson plan I am currently working on. Thank-you.This unit covered the receptive skills of reading and listening. These two skills can be challenging for students compared to the active skills of speaking and writing because both deal with comprehension as opposed to the structure of language. However, receptive skills are important because they give meaning to the words that are written or spoken, which is ultimately the point of learning a language.
