Whilst brief, this unit was useful for highlighting the various ways in which teacher's can engage with, and troubleshoot issues within the classroom. This unit has helped me to understand that students reverting to their native language is not an act of maliciousness but rather, a sign to make the content more clear as the student feels they cannot communicate what they want to say in English. The breakdown of potential rapport building exercises when starting to teach a new class was also helpful to think about. For example, a needs assessment might be more useful for classes who are more familiar with EFL teaching, whilst ice breaking games such as pass the ball may be more useful for a new group.
