Three important things to emphasize in teaching a new language are the grammar, function, and vocabulary. The grammar is important because it functions as the plan or blueprint for the language. If we think of grammar as a blueprint, we can then think of vocabulary as bricks used to fill in the plan of the blueprint in order to construct meaning. In my opinion, this is why the vocabulary is the most important part of studying another language. After it, however, would come the function. If the vocabulary and grammar come together to make a building of meaning, then the function would be the purpose of that building. A good combination of grammar and vocabulary work together to provide a solid meaning.
