In this unit I learned that there are many factors involved when teaching grammar and language. Difficulty in learning new vocabulary for students depends upon spelling and pronunciation of the the word, similarity of the word to the English that student already knows, similarity of that word to their own native language, and how the word is used. When learning about grammatical structure students generally need to know about forms and patterns, how the grammar is used as well as the spoken and written form. The students ability to process and retain information depends entirely on whether or not the language that is being taught is appropriate for that target group, the task, and willingness to learn.
