In teaching a subject and engaging students, the teacher should use a variety of strategies and activities in order to incite interest in the learning material. Participation is essential to learning. As the students participates, the teacher can assess what content the students are having difficulty with and then work to address those problems when introducing new material and reviewing past material. Above all else, participation gives the students the chance to gain confidence and become comfortable with the language, which are feelings the teacher should work hard to preserve by offering gentle guidance and allowing the class sufficient time to correct errors individually and as a collective group.
