The two videos in this unit demonstrate how the attitude the teacher comes to the class with affects students' participation and so the overall effectiveness of the lesson. In the first lesson, the teacher did not provide explanations when students were confused, failed to answer their questions, and repeated phrases that were clearly not understood multiple times rather than finding another way to make his meaning understood. In the second, the teacher used many tools, such as miming actions, to elicit more responses from the students, and was encouraging throughout. That sort of interaction encourages students to participate, which is the best way for them to practice, safely make mistakes, and learn.
