Conditionals are sentences which refer to past, present, and future possibilities. There are two clauses in a conditional sentence: the 'if' clause and the main clause. The 'if' clause contains a condition or hypothetical that must be satisfied before the result or consequence contained in the main clause can be fulfilled. The five main conditionals are: Zero Conditional, First Conditional, Second Conditional, Third Conditional, and Mixed Conditional. The unit also covers reported speech, which is what happens when you report someone else's words to a third party. There are general rule for how the verb tenses, pronouns, and time expressions used in a sentence change when that sentence is being reported.
