Course books can be of value to a teacher, especially an inexperienced teacher. It usually gives clear instructions and guidelines regarding the content that must be taught and is a good resource to help with planning and structuring your lesson. Course books provide you with a syllabus and graded activities and most of the material would have been tried and tested before published. The course books are unfortunately very prescriptive and often not in line with the specific needs and interests of all the students in the class. The teacher should, therefore, be able to judge what can be used effectively, where to supplement or even to redesign some of the lessons to ensure effective teaching and learning.
