Learning material can be divided into 2 groups: Authentic materials - anything that a student can read or hear of the English language. They are used because they are real and are therefore more interesting and motivating, because students gain confidence when they understand them and because they can be geared towards the interests of a particular group of students. Created materials - designed by the teacher to supplement or to replace materials from a course book. Common materials include crosswords, word search puzzles, role-play cards, flashcards, gap fill activities and picture stories. Course books - usually contain a student book, a workbook, cassettes, a teacher's book, a video (in some cases)
