When introducing new language to students we need to remember to do it in a balanced way, in small portions, so we don't overload students. Whether we introduce vocabulary, grammar, functions or structures, we can do so by applying ESA methods. Most common practice is to use the 'straight arrow ESA lesson for grammar and vocabulary, and the 'boomerang' and 'patchwork ESA lessons for introducing new functions or structures. Although this is not a rule and as teachers we can use the method we see as most appropriate. We can easily connect teaching specific grammatical structures with class levels. Teaching vocabulary has no rules and as a common practice teachers normally follow coursebooks and student books.
