Reading and listening, along with speaking and writing, are receptive skills that need to be incorporated into lessons in order to holistically teach english. Each skill is important and needs to be carefully taught for understanding to occur. When incorporating reading and listening activities in a lesson, the teacher should consider the context and students understanding of the topic as this greatly effects ones level of understanding. Pre-teaching vocabulary and carefully selecting texts is important in order for students to develop good reading and listening skills.
