There are two kinds of productive skills: speaking and writing which both are used for the same purpose, to communicate. Communication is every essential in order for there to be interaction with people. Therefore, it is the teacher?s duty to ensure that communicative activities are generated for the students in order for the students to see the need and desire to communicate. Hence, there must be some communicative purpose, students must want to say something, listen to something and should be interested in what is being said. Communicative activities depend on accuracy and fluency. Accuracy activities are based on producing the correct language which are usually controlled. Fluency activities allows the student to be creative and experimental with language. This kind of activity is more concerned with the outcome of communication by the student. In controlled based activities, language is operated by the teacher which include drilling and prompting while for guided activities, the output is still controlled by the teacher but the language isn?t. Examples are model dialogues and guided role-play. Fluency based activities are not created by the teacher and the content of the language isn?t. Examples include discussions, free role play, debates, communication games etc. All of these activities require students to speak in the classroom however some students are reluctant to do so due to the lack of confidence, fear of making mistakes or even cultural reasons amongst others. In order to encourage, interaction speaking activates more should be more purposeful, allow students to work in pairs or group, plan carefully or even change the classroom dynamics. The difference between speaking and writing is dependent on a number of factors such as handwriting, spelling and layout and punctuation. Handwriting is a very personal issue as well as a challenge. Students will find hand writing skills a challenge as some native uses a different alphabetical system from the English language. As a result, special training skill will be required in the formation of individual letters. Spelling in English may also pose a challenge as many words are pronounced the same but are written differently (see/sea) or written the same but pronounced differently(read/read). Due to the language barrier students may face, punctuation and layout of the English language may face some difficulties. However, in order to help students to learn the different layouts of writing, they need to be exposed to, and be given the change to practice with many different styles. Therefore, creative writing should be encouraged as it engages students and the finished work usually provides them with a great sense of pride. Games in the classroom can be an integral part of the syllabus as it aids with the teaching process to students, provide a useful controlled practice and free practice material. A game is an activity with rules, a goal and an element for entertainment. Games can be completive or co-operative.
