In Unit 11 the focus of the lesson was based around teaching the receptive skills reading and listening effectiviely. I have learned the importance of carefully selecting topics of interests based on my students interests and to provide texts that not only help build confidence in the students but also challenge them enough to increase their skills. Selecting topics to the students interests helps the students to be motivated and engaged in the lessons and creates an enthusiasm to learn new words and/or structures with confidence. It is important to pre-teach difficult or unknown vocabulary and grammar structures prior to commencing a reading or listening activity as it is essential to understanding the lesson.
