In the unit phonology we learn the science of how to teach, analyze, study and classify sounds. We can sum them in to: pronunciation, stress and intonation. Intonations are variants of volume and pitch in a sentence and they carry the message. Stress in a sentence is the word that is being emphasized and gives the meaning in the sentence. Not all words in a sentence are stressed, most words don?t have stress. We can teach students about stress with a few methods: By gestures, Choral work, by writing stressed words on the board and highlighting them. Pronunciations are the acts or results of producing the sounds of speech while phonology is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages.
