This unit provides an illustration of effective and ineffective lessons. In the ineffective lesson, the teacher is abrasive, does not explain concepts well, discourages student participation by repeatedly stating the ease of the concept being taught, not checking in on student progress during the study phase, and abruptly ending the lesson during the activate phase. He also does not smile and shows irritation when students answer incorrectly. In the effective lesson, the teacher introduces himself, smiles, and encourages student participation by politely correcting. He also checks in on students during the study phase and uses a concept students already know to illustrate the new concept during the engage phase.
