This unit focuses on introducing the various methods of teaching a foreign language that exist and briefly summarizing their pros and cons. The lesson then introduces the ESA methodology, or Engage - Study - Activate, which is generally influenced by all previous language-learning methods and attempts to utilize different aspects from these methods. The unit argues that the ESA method works best for students and teachers because it allows for creativity and flexibility in the classroom while setting up a framework for successful language acquisition. Generally, all classes using the ESA method will have some combination of Engaging students, Studying new material, and Activating this new material in creative ways.
