Learning about the receptive skills, consisting of reading and listening, and how to teach them was very beneficial in this unit. It is important to understand the different ways in which one will read and listen due to the purpose in which they have in mind for the material. This is important to understand when teaching because if they are listening, the information is not captured, and the students will have a harder time fully understanding it if they are not familiar with all the words that are said. Therefore, it is important to review vocabulary and other terms in which they may not know before starting a unit or teaching a new subject. Receptive skills are crucial for learning and practicing a new language.
