There are four basic skills for any language, which are receptive skills that include reading and listening, and productive skills which are speaking and writing. The unit focuses on teaching practices to improve the receptive skills, reading and writing. True understanding comes from pre-existing knowledge about the language. Giving students difficult vocabulary words to study before hand can help with some lessons. Written language that can be read has fewer problems than having to listen and deduce meaning. It is encouraged to learn how to understand texts without knowing every single word in the sentence. Its important to involve topics of important relevance to generate interest and keep students motivated.
